Summary

Minimalism: Live a Meaningful Life is our finest, most important creation to date。 It’s also the best thing we’ve ever written about Minimalism and will likely serve as the cornerstone to our work for years to come。 It took us a year to write this book—a year of creating the best material possible and finding ways to relate it back to our lives so you would have practical ways to relate the subject matter to your life。

This was so much better than the first book of theirs I'd read。 It was a lot more practical, and didn't repeat the same stories too much。What's lacking in all the material I've read and seen, however--not just from The Minimalists, but from everyone--is the struggle。 We get the awakening, we get the decision to change one's life, and we get the results, along with an "It wasn't easy," but no one talks about the process。 No one talks about getting rid of 90% of your belongings and still feeling e This was so much better than the first book of theirs I'd read。 It was a lot more practical, and didn't repeat the same stories too much。What's lacking in all the material I've read and seen, however--not just from The Minimalists, but from everyone--is the struggle。 We get the awakening, we get the decision to change one's life, and we get the results, along with an "It wasn't easy," but no one talks about the process。 No one talks about getting rid of 90% of your belongings and still feeling empty, which I'm sure happens。 No one talks about setbacks, or the difficulties along the way and how they overcame them。 Or how they carved out the time to make these changes happen。 That is a book I'd love to read。 Even with the FIRE movement--most of the big bloggers are people to whom this came "naturally。" No one talks about the challenges in going from a shopper to a saver。However, I really enjoyed this book and have written down the five dimensions and committed to improving each one in my own life: health, passions, relationships, growth, and contribution。 。。。more

The book focuses more on a meaningful life, bit different from what I expected。 Being a minimalist is to live a meaningful life, I understand, but I am still confused how to make connect some of five values mentioned in the book to minimalism。 Probably I just stepped into the concept of minimalism, and thus I haven’t had a deep understanding of that。

+ Much more depth (compared to the previous book);+ Quick read, but may require multiple reads over time;- Only few praxis exercises;

A clear picture and path to a meaningful life。 Easy to read without having to stop often to complete distracting self-help/self-discovery exercises (that are typically found in other books of this genre)。 What Joshua says makes sense because it's simply put, but nonetheless enlightening。 A clear picture and path to a meaningful life。 Easy to read without having to stop often to complete distracting self-help/self-discovery exercises (that are typically found in other books of this genre)。 What Joshua says makes sense because it's simply put, but nonetheless enlightening。 。。。more

This book is less about the details of minimalism and more about the idea of what constitutes a meaningful life。 The book focuses on 5 main areas that the authors believe are essential for this: health, relationships, contribution, growth, and passion。 While at times this book was a bit too prescriptive for my liking, I found that many of the overall themes really resonated with me。 This book reminds me of the value of minimalism in helping to remove distraction and improve focus on what really This book is less about the details of minimalism and more about the idea of what constitutes a meaningful life。 The book focuses on 5 main areas that the authors believe are essential for this: health, relationships, contribution, growth, and passion。 While at times this book was a bit too prescriptive for my liking, I found that many of the overall themes really resonated with me。 This book reminds me of the value of minimalism in helping to remove distraction and improve focus on what really matters most in life。 While I agree that each of these 5 areas are awesome, I also love the idea of each individual determining what is most important themselves。 I am looking forward to exploring what I deem both unnecessary/cluttering and essential/vital。 This book gave me a good jump start on that inner dialogue and process。"Thus, living a meaningful life and minimalism go hand in hand。 Minimalism acts as a tool, helping you focus on what's important much more easily; it clears away the clutter so you can focus on living more deliberately。" 。。。more

This book had 5 important steps for living a happy and fulfilled life。 I liked the idea to combinate these steps with minimalism and see it like that。 There are some really good suggestions how to start changing an unhealthy and unhappy life into a good one。 I liked this book and will reread it when I feel I need the suggestions。 All in all a short good and helpful book。 I recommend it to everyone。

Despite the title this is more about living in a meaningful life rather than minimalism。 Or maybe that’s what minimalism is all about in the first place。

I’ve been listening to The Minimalists podcast since I was a senior in college and it’s been such a constant in my life and has helped me become more intentional with my time。 I only rate this 4/5 because I’ve listened to the podcast and have heard some of their anecdotes a few times, but nonetheless the Five Values are core templates of my life that have helped me achieve a work/passion/relationship/health/contribution balance that works for me。 By paring down and learning to live a life withou I’ve been listening to The Minimalists podcast since I was a senior in college and it’s been such a constant in my life and has helped me become more intentional with my time。 I only rate this 4/5 because I’ve listened to the podcast and have heard some of their anecdotes a few times, but nonetheless the Five Values are core templates of my life that have helped me achieve a work/passion/relationship/health/contribution balance that works for me。 By paring down and learning to live a life without excess, minimalism has helped me pay off so much student debt and travel, and I’m so thankful to get to listen to Josh and Ryan each week, and to be able to read their work。(I’m also shocked that it took me so long to read this but with practicing minimalism, it felt weird to buy a book about minimalism so when I got a kindle as a Christmas gift, it seemed like an appropriate purchase) 。。。more

This book focuses more on meaningfulness and just tidbits about Minimalism itself。 Nonetheless, it's still valuable content。The authors are probably trying not to rehash content that they've already covered in their blog, so I appreciate that。 They also inspire me to keep working on my own blog: http://belessawful。com/。I'd like to believe that they have grown a lot ten years after they've published this book based on their podcast insights, so I am looking forward to reading more of their work。 This book focuses more on meaningfulness and just tidbits about Minimalism itself。 Nonetheless, it's still valuable content。The authors are probably trying not to rehash content that they've already covered in their blog, so I appreciate that。 They also inspire me to keep working on my own blog: http://belessawful。com/。I'd like to believe that they have grown a lot ten years after they've published this book based on their podcast insights, so I am looking forward to reading more of their work。 。。。more

Living a meaningful life is the question this book sought to answer。 In attempting to answer this question Joshua and Ryan go through what they find to be the five most important values in life。 They discuss each one of the values: health, relationships, passion, growth and contribution。 They talk about their personal experiences with each and why they are important to the overall character and happiness of an individual。 I have mixed feelings on this book。 In some instances, the author's ideas Living a meaningful life is the question this book sought to answer。 In attempting to answer this question Joshua and Ryan go through what they find to be the five most important values in life。 They discuss each one of the values: health, relationships, passion, growth and contribution。 They talk about their personal experiences with each and why they are important to the overall character and happiness of an individual。 I have mixed feelings on this book。 In some instances, the author's ideas were compelling and in others, they seemed to miss the mark。 Many of the topics included in this book are simply quick introductions that are hard to glean value from during their brief sections。 The topic of minimalism also comes up very little, which is odd considering that is the title of the book。 However, I did find quite a bit of useful encouragement and motivation in the pages and would still recommend it as a book worth the short read。 。。。more
